Why would it be different for Leviathans or Reefbacks? Granted the mega reaper might share the Emperor's immunity but Reefbacks definitely don't or Enzyme 42 would be worthless as we could draw samples from the gentle giants They would likely provide an ass ton of sustenance for a single Apex.Īttempts to survive in the Void for any Fauna results in a rather long death by way of untreated Carar. That reminds me, chances are there existed massive Reefbacks, Reefback Leviathans, out in the Void. Perhaps the Apex could have feasted on Plankton, it likely did as it feasted on Leviathans and Reefbacks, but I doubt they'd provide sufficient nutrition for a creature of such size. The only feasible life existing currently is at the Primary seamount or are land based animals on possibly larger Islands elsewhere on the planet beyond the Void. Attempts to survive in the Void for any Fauna results in a rather long death by way of untreated Carar. because of the Carar, aquatic life on 4546B has been, assumedly, reduced to the one Seamount the game takes place on. Sure, a regular dinner is nice, but why wouldn't you substitute it for a full blown buffet?Īnyway, Before the Carar struck, there must have been dozens of different species swimming around in that void, all supporting a complex and functioning, stable ecosystem. The animals that went into the void did so in search of food. With bigger Herbivores (Peepers and the such) came predators (Stalkers, Bonesharks), and with those predators came greater predators (Leviathans) until the Apex came (Void Leviathan) that consumed anything as big as a standard Leviathan. The Plankton would have survived through sunlight and such at higher sea levels, leaving herbivores and Reefbacks able to feast on them. Perhaps food is, was, a bit more abundant out in the Void before the Carar struck. And my use of the word "disappointing" earlier may be misleading - I still love this game! It's a relative disappointment :P No reef has only one species of shark, or seal, or dolphin, or what have you.Īgain, it's a tall order to ask (and I'm not really asking), I'm just comparing notes to a real, functional ecosystem. For there only to be one major secondary consumer in on the reef section (stalkers) is a little disappointing. Given the amount of original work already gone into the wildlife, I'm impressed as it is, but in a perfect world I'd like to see triple the number of beasties. You could argue that's a result of the devastating carar pandemic, and it'd be a pretty solid argument. Yeah we've got a few fishies, but really not a lot, and next to no analogs to our shrimp, crabs, amphibods, copepods, etc. The one major thing I feel the game is missing is the primary predators. So long as there is sunlight to feed that top few cms of water, you'll have plankton, and everything else in the food web, but with less density. Proper seamounts would likely be a fair bit larger (much more than a few km across), if it's one that is large enough to crest the ocean surface.ĭepending on currents, the deep pelagic waters (the "void") should have life in it similar to on the reefs themselves, though far more sparse. The game itself appears like a simplified version of a seamount. Seamounts can and do have VERY deep banks, think Azores, or Hawaii. Scientifically speaking (I'm an Earth Scientist), it seems like we've crash landed on an active seamount. Its sheer size would have prohibited it from entering such an enclosed space, suggesting the geography of the planet has shifted around it over time" - So it either went into that location and died, and then was studied postmortem, or it was brought and trapped there to be studied, it eventually grew either too large or too weak to leave - and died there. The "Gargantuan skeleton" In the "bones field" in Lost river - The GIANT skull that everyone is familiar with - with the giant fangs - looks like an alligator-esque jaw/face - and this is from the wiki - "The Precursors were also studying these remains, as evidenced by small, angular indentations on the ribcage, as well as the Disease Research Facility being partially set up to study it."Īlso according to the wiki - "- Aged to approximately ten million years old The SDL remains at the Lost River Junction - the one with evidence of trauma to the skull - indicating it was the one that attacked the research facility. The "ancient skeleton" outside the lost river laboratory - looks like a burrowing type of creature - 7000 years old according to the scan - surrounded by lights and equipment. LOL -I know right?! what a crazy concept!!īut seriously - I think we need to clarify which giant skeleton we're talking about here - There are 3 notable ones.
